Meet the Founder
My name is Susan Kahara, I am a special education teacher in Wisconsin, and I am originally from the beautiful country of Kenya. In the Kikuyu community where I was raised in Central Kenya, women grow up with the culture of making the most gorgeous, colorful baskets. This skill is traditionally passed down from generation to generation, providing a vital source of income to the women who are the pillars of our community.
Each one of these baskets is a unique work of art, and no two baskets are alike. They are hand-woven by women who are putting generations of traditional knowledge, design, and skill into each basket. My hope is that by offering these baskets to customers like you, we will help them preserve and share this culture of basket weaving with future generations.
